Shambhala Art can be seen as a process, a product, and an arts education program.  As a process, it brings wakefulness and awareness to the creative and viewing processes through the integration of contemplation and meditation.  As a product, it is art that wakes people up. Shambhala Art is also an international non-profit arts education program based on the Dharma Art teachings of the late Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the founder of Shambhala Buddhism, Shambhala International, and Naropa Institute.  Shambhala Art is a division of Shambhala and is presided over by his son and heir, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. This program is taught by trained and authorized Shambhala Art teachers.

An Introduction to Shambhala Art Mini-Course

An Introduction to Shambhala Art

In this series of three video segments, we provide a brief course on Shambhala Art. Through lecture, exercise, and discussion the sections capture a small portion of the total vision of the five-part program. These videos are best seen in order. They are approximately 18, 22, 13 minutes long. Parts 2-3 of this talk can only be seen here at shambhalaart.org.

Part One is a lecture that explores the question "What is Shambhala Art?" Part Two is a shortened exercise typically offered in the Shambhala Art Program. Its purpose is to illustrate experientially an aspect of the teachings found in Shambhala Art. To do this exercise as an individual or a group, you will need something to write with and a small object for which you have a significant history. In Part Three, "The Discussion," we attempt to harvest people's insights and join them with one's creative process.
